He President Sebastián Piñera He assured today that he understands the truckers’ request, for which he called for joining forces to “combat violence and terrorism.”
This Saturday was the third day of the strike after the leaders rejected “outright” the proposal made by the Government.
Piñera said that “we have deployed about 4,000 police to ensure order and tranquility on the roads, but going to the bottom of the matter, We understand the concern, anguish, felt by many truckers who see so often being attacked, mugged, vandalized and set on fire. In that we understand them and we are on the same side. In that we are absolutely allies. “
“The true adversary, true enemy, is violence, it is terrorism, they are the armed groups that respect nothing and no one and, therefore, the logical thing is to unite our forces,” he remarked.
Given this, Piñera called on the public to denounce and not justify any act of violence, a request in which he did not leave the National Confederation of Freight Transportation (CNTC): “the solution to the issue of truckers is not in a strike or cutting off the road; it is in dialogue, and the Government has been permanently open to dialogue and we have made proposals to them,” he said.
“And we are willing to continue talking, as long as it is done without ultimatums, without takings and without violence,” added the President.
He also warned that the supply chain will not be affected.
Regarding the bills requested by the truckers, he assured that all are in Congress being reviewed, and -he emphasized- “for a long time “, so now they are being reviewed with “much urgency“.
However, the highest authority in the country asked the parliamentarians to speed up the process of passing these laws.
Finally, “I ask that the stoppage of truckers, of some truckers, be stopped, because the solution is not the stoppages; the solution is unity,” he concluded.
