A light white blanket woke up the region of Los Ríos and Los Lagos this morning, causing surprise in the community when seeing snow even in Valdivia and the coastal sector. Something quite unusual.
Given this fact, the photographs did not take long to appear on social networks with cars covered in snow in La Unión and a “snow monkey” in Paillaco. Postcards that were also repeated in San Pablo and Puyehue.
Cristian Sandoval, meteorologist from the South Regional Center pointed out that it was a “quite unusual” event, considering the temperatures registered during the morning of this Friday in both regions.
“The minimum temperatures were around two and three degrees, they did not drop below that between Valdivia, Osorno and Puerto Montt,” he added that in this way, the rainfall must have been water.
Thus, he added that they received snow information in La Unión and Paillaco and weaker in the regional capital of Los Ríos.
“The amount of snow is not very considerable in some sectors either,” he indicated, detailing that this fact was caused by the rapid displacement of a frontal system that displaces colder air from the south to the north.
Meanwhile, regarding the possibility that this event will be repeated within the next few days, Sandoval indicated that it was simply something “very isolated.”
Given this, Carabineros ordered preventive controls between km 835 and 888 of Route 5 South. According to Lieutenant Luis Llanquiman, head of Valdivia highways, “even the weather conditions remain adverse, with heavy snow falling (…) we call on the public to drive with caution.”
The phenomenon was also present in the Los Lagos region with snow water and copious snowfall in areas near the cordillera of the cordillera.
From meteorology they rushed to detail that it would be short-lived and would not extend for the weekend.
According to Sandoval, this occurred locally in the northern part of the Los Lagos region.
In addition, the expert confirmed that sunny days would come after the rains, yes, he pointed out that this would also occur with low temperatures.
