At 23:00 this Friday the quarantine began in four communes of Greater Concepción, regional capital of Bío Bío. In the same way the measure began to rule in the commune of Linares, Maule region.
For the Bío Bío region – where more than half a million people go into quarantine – this is a far more extreme measure than what has been experienced in the area to date.
Although initially Concepción, Talcahuano and Hualpén remained in phase II of Transition – which implied quarantine on weekends and holidays -, now these three communes will be added, together with Chiguyante, to an indefinite quarantine, a measure that had already been applied to Penco and Tomé.
According to a La Radio team that patrols the streets of Concepción, so far very few vehicles have been seen on the roads. Meanwhile, the commune of Linares, in the Maule region, also began with the measure at 11:00 p.m.
The Undersecretary for Crime Prevention, Katherine Martorell, previously explained that the measure was taken due to the increase in infections registered in recent weeks and the demands of the mayors for more restrictive measures to be taken.
As stated this Wednesday by the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, the cases could increase by 66% in the next 14 days in Greater Concepción and by 33% in the next seven days, emphasizing that this led to the new laws being decreed. quarantines.
The provincial governor of Concepción, Julio Anativia, told La Radio that “It is a strict measure that we have been forced to apply due to the large number of coronavirus infections that we have and in which we have coordinated with the Chilean Navy, with Carabineros, with the Investigative Police, with the municipalities, in order to generate an adequate inspection ”.
“The call to citizenship is to stay at home, go out for what is strictly necessary and only with their permission. Those who do not do so are going to be inspected and arrested, ”he said.
