Due to the coronavirus pandemic, since March 19 a State of Constitutional Catastrophe Exception has been in effect throughout the country. Plaza Baquedano is located on the border of the Providencia and Santiago communes, which are in the transition phase of the Covid-19 control plan. Among the sanitary measures arranged for this stage is the prohibition of meetings of more than ten people in open spaces.

The police had to intervene when groups of people proceeded to cut traffic at the intersection of Avenida Vicuña Mackenna and Avenida Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins.
