The Ministry of Health reported this Thursday of the first air transfer of Covid-19 patients from Santiago to Concepción, to decongest ICU beds, mainly those with mechanical fans attached.
These are two patients – a woman of 54 and a man of 66 – from the Padre Hurtado Hospital who will continue their treatment in the Biobío Region, which were taken by the Metropolitan SAMU to Group 10 to undertake the flight in a specially conditioned Air Force (FACh) aircraft.

The Undersecretary of Assistance Networks, Arturo Zúñiga, explained that the patients “were hospitalized on Monday at the Padre Hurtado Hospital and that are in a position to be transferred“
“Obviously, we have to ensure that these transfers are made safely for patients and that is why it has been determined that the health conditions that are necessary for the transfer are that they are not patients who are in critical condition to be able to support adequately the transfer that involves taking them in a Hercules plane from one region to another, “he said.

While the General of the FACh Air Brigade, Xabier de Aretxabala, asserted that “our ability to have air transportation, such as the C-130, such as Boeing, It allows us to transport even up to four highly infectious patients in one flight. That capacity is what allows us to make available to the State our ability to transfer these highly infectious patients. “

“Full capacity” in Concepción
For his part, the director of the Concepción Health Service, Carlos Grant stressed that they have “full capacity” to receive patients from the capital.
“Our main campus, the Guillermo Grant Benavente Hospital, today we have only two patients in critical beds, in ICU beds, and that makes us have a very important support to receive the different people of the region, as well as from any other place in the country, in case you need mechanical ventilation, “he emphasized.
The professional indicated that today they have “about 57 critical beds available to the country and we have 26 critical beds available today.”
Only this week, more than 50 patients have been transferred from the capital to regional establishments since Tuesday.
