The Health Minister confirmed the transfer of four patients with covid-19 from Santiago to Concepción in order to alleviate the care capacity of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of different hospitals, and at the same time vacate beds for new patients.

“Patients are being transported within the Metropolitan Region and also abroad. We sincerely thank the FACh for making a well-equipped Hercules aircraft available to transport six patients simultaneously,” said Minister Jaime Mañalich.

And he added: “It is part of the strategy to alleviate the care burden of ICUs in the Metropolitan Region and achieve a minimum security surplus of 10% of health services (in Santiago).”

These would be some patients admitted to Pudahuel, who would arrive at the regional hospital in Concepción this Thursday.

The operation was called “Aeromedical Evacuation of Highly Infectious Critical Patients”, and will be carried out in Group 10 of the Air Force.
