Government enacts Emergency Family Income Law: it will benefit almost 5 million people | Economy

This Thursday the Government enacted the Law of Emergency Family Income (IFE), after the Senate approved the presidential veto on the project during the last hours.

The Minister of Social Development and Family, Sebastian Sichel, was in charge of announcing the promulgation of the initiative at the Palacio de La Moneda.

The measure will benefit almost 5 million Chileans, in whose households the monthly income in general is obtained from informal labor and independent work.

Payment will start at the end of May (day 29), will last for three months and will be aimed at households that:

1. They belong to the 60% most vulnerable in the emergency months, they are not part of the 10% with the highest income in the medium term, and they do not have formal income from remuneration received, for example, from an employment contract, thinking in which they could take advantage of other measures that are being promoted to protect income in the midst of the pandemic.

2. Be part of the 40% most vulnerable in the emergency months, who are not part of the 10% with the highest income according to their Social Registry of Homes, and who receive mostly informal income, but who register some low formal income.

In this case, these are also families that live in a situation of high vulnerability during the emergency, but who, in addition to their informal income, receive, for example, a low pension or low fees.

3. Households that have at least one adult over 70 years of age or older with a Basic Solidarity Pension (PBS), that are not part of either the first or the second universe of households that the project included initially and that belong to the 80% most vulnerable of the country according to the Socioeconomic Rating of the Social Registry of Homes.

Minister Sebastián Sichel explained that “on May 29, all those who have had a previous government bond and are entitled to this benefit they will receive payment automatically. A second group will receive it the second fortnight of June ”.

The amount

The amount of this bonus It will depend on the number of family members and their degree of vulnerability.

For example: a family of four that belongs to the most vulnerable 40%, will receive $ 260 thousand the first month; $ 221 thousand the second month and $ 182 thousand the third month.
