The undersecretary of Crime Prevention, Katherine Martorell, unveiled a series of complementary measures to those announced by the Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, regarding the total quarantine for 38 communes in the Metropolitan region, which will take effect from this Friday at 22:00.

Martorell explained that the objective of the sanitary customs is “check the health condition of people who move from one place to another, verify that they do not have COVID-19 or must be in isolation, and that they are not going to their second home ”.

This measure also seeks protect the communes of Peñaflor, Talagante and El Monte, belonging to the province of Talagante, that was left out of the decreed quarantine for the Metropolitan region.

The metropolitan mayor, Felipe Guevara, said that the total quarantine announced by Minister Mañalich is “The biggest sanitary challenge in the history of our city”.

As detailed, a total of 6.5 million people will enter mandatory confinement starting this Friday, which represents 90% of the population of Santiago.
