The Minister of the Interior, Gonzalo Blumel, announced this Wednesday that patrols will be increased to duly comply with the extensive quarantine that will begin to govern the capital from Friday.
It should be remembered that the Government decreed total quarantine for the 32 communes of Greater Santiago and six others from the Metropolitan Region (San Bernardo, Buin, Puente Alto, Padre Hurtado, Lampa and Colina).
During the afternoon Minister Blumel held a meeting together with his Defense pair, Alberto Espina, and the head of the National Defense of the RM, General Carlos Ricotti, to determine the measures that will be taken in the communes that join the quarantines since Friday, May 15.
In this regard, the Minister of the Interior explained that the patrols will be increased, along with the implementation of customs and control points in Santiago.
“Quarantine is the measure of greatest intensity in health matters and will only work if we all collaborate (…) Achieving the objective of reducing the level of the contagion curve does not depend so much on the police or military deployment, but on the conduct that one have“Explained the authority.
He also said that “along with this deployment that will mean that more than 14 thousand troops are patrolling and taking care of the safety and health of the residents of the capital, along with the deployment of technology and the various means that the Institutions, we have taken additional measures that we are implementing starting today and the next few days. ”
In this sense, he pointed out that today the Comptroller’s Office took account of the decree that allows public and municipal officials to collaborate and receive instructions directly from the heads of Defense “in order to have more capabilities in controlling the effectiveness of the measures we are implementing “
For his part, the Defense Minister explained that he is going to “face the greatest challenge in the history of Chile of a city with quarantine, which is Santiago, and which covers more than 6,500,000 people, which is an extraordinarily large number“
For this reason, Espina reaffirmed that the objective of this plan is “to win this battle for life. This is the most important battle that our country has given ”.
“We are going to win this battle, but to win it, it is essential that all citizens collaborate and act with the utmost responsibility in complying with sanitary regulations and the quarantine that has been decreed,” said Espina.
