Three opposition-led parliamentary motions joined today in what has become a real “Wave” of projects declared inadmissible in the Lower House.

The table led by the deputy Diego Paulsen (RN) has already dismissed hosting eleven projects so far in May, eight during this week and another three in the previous week, in almost all cases for violating Article 65 of the Political Constitution, where the matters that are the exclusive initiative of the President of the Republic.

During this day, among the initiatives that were declared inadmissible, is one promoted by the vice president of that corporation, Rodrigo González (PPD) -together with, among others, the deputies Gabriel Boric (CS), Karol Cariola (PC), Daniela Cicardini (PS), Claudia Mix (Comunes), Alejandra Sepúlveda (FRVS) and Camila Vallejo (PC) – , whose objective was to create “a solidarity fund for pension contingencies” in the face of the health crisis.

Likewise, the proposal of -among other deputies- was rejected. Juan Santana (PS) and Amaro Labra (PC) and that it sought to declare “the medical supplies industry of national interest”. And also, a motion promoted by the communist president, William Teilier, which proposed “extend the coverage of the rental subsidy”.

Last week, meanwhile, an initiative promoted by pro-government parliamentarians, among them, was declared inadmissible. Jorge Alessandri (UDI) and Gonzalo Fuenzalida (RN), whose purpose was to establish a “tax exemption due to acts of violence”.

This is an issue that is not only restricted to the Chamber of Deputies. In The Senate has also seen an increase in the presentation of initiatives that exceed the powers of parliamentarians. That strategy has been defended by the opposition from where they seek to “pressure” the Executive to sponsor initiatives that, in the opinion of the sector, are necessary in the face of the pandemic.
