In his last step in Congress, the Senate approved and dispatched this Wednesday the presidential veto for the Emergency Family Income project, maintaining the decreasing amounts proposed by the Government.
The first payments, in RUT Accounts, are expected to be on May 29: 65 thousand pesos per person the first month, 55 thousand 250 pesos the second month and 45 thousand 500 the third month.
This despite the controversy between the Government and the opposition over the amounts, which led to the project leaving Congress without the distribution mechanism of the $ 802 million contemplated, making it inapplicable.
What happened forced the government to present a presidential veto that, despite the opposition’s “urgent call” to increase money and coverage, kept the same amounts as the original proposal.

In the Senate, the veto had 19 votes in favor, none against and 23 abstentions, the latter joining the majority: strictly speaking, 42 votes approve the initiative.
The Minister of Social Development, Sebastian Sichel, confirmed that, with this approval, on May 29 all those who have already received some benefit from the State will have in their RUT Accounts the first payment, corresponding to May.
For the rest, there may be a gap due to the postponement of the legislative process.
On his Twitter account, the head of the Treasury, Ignacio Briones, confirmed that “the benefit begins to be paid the last week of May”.
From Valparaiso, tell them that @Senado_Chile approved the Family Emergency Income that benefits 4.5 million Chileans, and which will be Law in the next few days. The benefit begins to be paid the last week of May. Thanks to all who contributed to this expected measure.
