Opposition parliamentarians signed a bill promoted by the deputy Claudia Mix (Common Party), which seeks to declare as company of national interest to the airline Latam.

The single article initiative considers the current situation in the company, which includes 70% of its operations suspended.

In this scenario, Deputy Mix indicated that the State has the possibility, after declaring it of national interest, to “Renationalise it or invest to rescue it.”

“It is essential to have Latam … also avoid bankruptcy and have a company as important as this with the possibility of serving the country,” he said.

Thus, he warned that it is an important moment for open the debate on the privatization of strategic companies in Chile.

The one who also signed the project was the deputy of the Democratic Revolution, Jorge Brito, who argued that companies, such as Latam, are key to the country’s operation.

Just as some parliamentarians have lived 20 years at the expense of the State and do not want to help people in the midst of the pandemic, we believe that the State must help people and those companies that are strategic for Chile. That is why it is so important that this project be approved.
