This May 11 CAME released a new version of his poll Public plaza, probing transcendent edges of the pandemic, such as the return to classes, the reason for the increase in cases and employment expectations.

On the causes of the increase in infections, 59% believe that the main reason is that people do not respect sanitary measures, such as social distancing, the use of masks, quarantines and curfews.

Meanwhile, 48% believe that the increase in infections is due to the government’s attempt to accelerate the return to normality, and 28% believe that it is due to errors in communications from the Executive itself.

Regarding the current situation of the classes, those that are suspended in person due to the health crisis, 47% believe that classes should not be returned and that they should be kept online.

In the meantime, 32% maintain that the school year should be ended and that all students pass the course. Finally, 17% believe that they should return to face-to-face classes during the second semester.

Employment expectations

Regarding the employment prospects of Chileans, 92% think that the current employment situation in the country is bad or very bad, the highest figure since 2014, while only 4% believe that it is good or very good.

Evaluation of actors in the face of crisis

Regarding the different actors that have had an incidence during the context of the pandemic that surrounds the country, 96% of respondents believe that doctors and health personnel have done well or very well.

For its part, 76% evaluate the management of mayors as positive, while 66% believe that Izkia Siches, president of the Medical College, has done it correctly.

Regarding the President’s management in the face of the crisis, 32% evaluate him positively, a figure close to that of his Health Minister, Jaime Mañalich, which reaches 30%.

By last, only 29% believe they have a positive notion regarding companies in the context of crisis by Covid-19.

Institutional evaluation

Consulted on the institutions, the three best valued are the Civil Registry, the Investigative Police and the municipalities, all with 70% approval.

On the contrary, the worst evaluated are the Communist Party (12%), the National Congress (11%) and the block that integrates the Socialist Party, the Party for Democracy and the Radicals (10%).

President and Government

Finally, regarding the management of the President and the Government, only 25% approve of Sebastián Piñera’s work, while 66% disapprove.

On the management of the crisis by the Government, 35% approve of the job, while 62% disapprove. Regarding the general management of the Government, it remains at 25% approval.
