Veteran American actor Jerry Stiller, who became famous on Broadway and later on the world-famous television series “Seinfield”, died of natural causes at age 92, his son Ben Stiller said Monday.
Stiller and his wife Anne Meara began writing and starring in comedy routines and acts – both on stage and on television – in the 1960s.
Then he played Frank, the curmudgeonly father of George Costanza, in the renowned series “Seinfeld”. A role for which he won the Most Funny Male Appearance Award as a guest actor in a television series at the American Comedy Awards in 1989.
For this same role, in 1997 he was nominated for an Emmy.
He also characterized Leah Remini’s father in the comedy “The King of Queens” and starred with his son Ben in “Zoolander” films.
“I regret to report that my father, Jerry Stiller, died of natural causes,” his son wrote in a tweet.
“He was a great father and grandfather, and was the most dedicated husband for Anne for about 62 years, “he added,” He will be greatly missed. I love you dad”.
