Three councilmen from Iquique and two municipal officials remained in preventive detention after being formalized in the framework of an investigation for alleged corruption in a million dollar tender to change LED lights in the commune.

At the hearing, which began around 2:00 p.m. and lasted until the early hours of this Saturday, charges were filed for bribery, violation of secrecy, money laundering, tax fraud and illicit association.

Another 10 defendants – including a fourth formalized councilman – were left under total house arrest.

The chief prosecutor of Iquique, Gonzalo Guerrero, indicated in his presentation that the former Seremi of Sport, in the second government of Michelle Bachelet, was the link between Itelecom and the bribed councilors to favor the company in this project.

At the hearing, the Public Ministry also mentioned other municipal officials responsible for carrying out the bidding rules, filtering them much earlier that they were published to be economically benefited.

For this same case, there are already several people arrested in Chillán.
