The Government announced that the former Undersecretary of the Interior Rodrigo Ubilla will return to La Moneda from Monday May 11 as part of the Presidency advisory team.

In a brief statement, the Executive explained that Ubilla “will collaborate, for 90 days and for half a day, in the design and coordination of public policies in the framework of the health and social crisis

Ubilla resigned from the Undersecretariat of the Interior on December 16 citing “personal reasons” and his departure became effective on January 1.

His departure came amid controversy over an alleged irregular purchase of a three-hectare property located within the Mapuche community Mariano Millahual, which is why he had to declare on September 26 and November 21 in the Court of Letters from Pucón.

In January of this year, that court declared that the lands acquired by the former undersecretary are “indigenous”, reason why it referred the antecedents to the Temuco Judicial Prosecutor’s Office to establish whether the transaction is declared invalid.

In turn, the Ubilla defense announced that they would appeal the ruling.
