International Paralympic Committee (IPC) on Tuesday announced the removal of two medals that the Russian national table tennis team Matias Pino won in Lima Parapan 2019 American Games.
The decision was made by the governing body after the doping control conducted at the aforementioned competition in Peru, the Chilean athlete noted the presence octopamine, substance prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA).
The IPC also said that a sports verdict will be issued later by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), an organization that regulates Paralympic table tennis competitions internationally.
“As a result of his disqualification from the 6th grade competition of men’s singles at the Parapan Am Games 2019, American Ian Seidenfeld, the first silver medalist, will now receive a gold medal,” IPC reports.
“Pino was also part of the team that participated in the 2019 Parapanic Games. The results of this team are also subject to disqualification with all the ensuing consequences for the team and its members, including the loss of any medal, point and prize. The Chilean team won bronze in the men’s team class 6-8, but this result is now disqualified, ”he added.
The Chilean Paralympic Committee (COPACHI) expressed deep regret over the situation and reiterated its full commitment to the fight against doping.
