The evolution and optimization of numerous mobile specifications will have to be measured in an increasingly adverse scenario: a global industry that will suffer the impact of the recession and the already known restrictions on Google services.
Although we are facing difficult times and a global recession is expected in the coming months, dragged down by falls in multiple industries, competition at the smartphone level does not stop.
According to IDC estimates, 275.9 million devices were sold in the first quarter, 11.7% less compared to the same period in 2019, while Strategy Analytics indicates that smartphone shipments plummeted 17% in the period. However, both figures represent the biggest drop in history for the sector.
Despite this, manufacturers continue to promote their high-end equipment, betting on those demanding consumers who, despite everything, seek to stay updated on technology.
Huawei’s new P40 series is a sample of this. Below we analyze the highlights of the P40 Pro, the mobile that these days makes its debut in the trade of our region.
The qualitative leap
As expected, the evolution of this team is evident with three main pillars such as the screen, design and cameras.
One of the aspects with which Huawei was somewhat more diminished than its competition was on the screens, however with this new edition the company takes a leap thanks to the 6.58-inch Quad-Curve Overflow display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, which provides an immersive and fluid view across the entire screen.
The harmony that transmits the P40 Pro is thanks to its design, since the curved edges, in addition to helping in the visualization, allow the handling of the equipment to be very comfortable and safer than the Mate 30 Pro. The screen includes pronounced curvatures on its four sides, which aims – according to the company – to remind us of the moment when the water is about to spill from the edge of a glass.
Another functional aspect that it includes is the fingerprint sensor incorporated in the screen that has been improved by offering a 30% increase in speed in biometric authentication.
On the other hand, as usual, cameras are the main protagonists of the P40 Pro. In its alliance with Leica, Huawei maintains excellence in this field, which has validated numerous recognitions, such as those of the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA ) which has awarded the P40 series as the best smartphones for photography in 2020 and the DXOMARK rating that gave the P40 Pro the first place, reaching a total of 128 points for its traditional table.
The functions and features that justify this positioning are based on the quad camera, with the incorporation of a SuperSensing Cine camera system and a depth perception ToF camera with support for a 50x SuperSensing Zoom.
The camera system empowers the lenses to be capable of delivering stunning images even in very dark environments, a highly developed zoom that reveals more detail of objects at a distance, quasi-professional level bokeh portraits, more accurate selfies and a Cinema camera that powers the capture of videos at the highest level among mobiles.
Optimal functionality, but …
The performance of the P40 Pro is a field that does not cause concern or any inconvenience. The capabilities offered by the equipment are more than satisfactory and it is capable of responding to multiple tasks and requirements.
Thanks to its new processor, the Kirin 990 5G, manufactured in-house, we have a team that is even ahead of the current demand that may exist in our region. Again, a great combination is now generated between the display capabilities and the graphics performance of the MC16 Mali-G76 GPU, which together with the dual-core NPU (Artificial Intelligence) offers advanced multimedia experiences.
On the other hand, the 4,200 mAh battery supports more than a day, in addition to including the super charge with a maximum of 40 W that will give you a lot of life in a few minutes. In turn, the mobile delivers memory capacities of 8 GB RAM and 256 GB ROM.
With all this, added to the rest of the specifications and capabilities (which you can review here), we are faced with a smartphone that is very complete, modern and elegant.
However, we are faced with an increasingly common problem now. We miss Google a lot. Of course, this is beyond the possibilities of Huawei, who has endeavored to offer a very satisfactory system interface, based on EMUI, but which remains lame as it does not have key mobile services such as Gmail, Maps, YouTube and many others.
We know that the company does not sit idly by, as each day it strengthens its App Gallery application store, with more offer and adding more developers; but the contest is uneven.
That is why we say that the best smartphone presented by Huawei faces what is by far its biggest challenge so far: to succeed and position itself in a global market that is crumbling economically and without the pillar of Google applications. In their favor, we have a high-performance mobile phone and an important user base in the world that has already been delighted with its products, and those who also know that there are certain ways to install restricted services on their own.
