MOSCOW, May 3 – RIA Novosti. Astronomers have discovered an unusual dead neutron star Swift J1818.0-1607 that may be the “missing link” between magniture and pulsars. He is informed by ScienceAlert.
The space object was detected by the Burst Alert telescope at the Swift Observatory. Initially, scientists believed that Swift J1818.0-1607 Magnetar, a star with a very large magnetic field. It was later revealed to be emitting a pulsed radio broadcast that defines it as a radio pulsar.
The radiation source, it turned out, is the fastest rotating pulsar of all discovered and probably the youngest.
Scientists have known four radiomagnetics, but Swift J1818.0-1607 is not found in any of them there. During the transition from low frequency to high astronomers, a sharp drop in the brightness of the radio emission was discovered. Other rudimentary ones have an almost constant brightness across the entire radio spectrum.
According to astronomers, the discovery could show that pulsars can become miniatures, and also that collapsing stars have a magnetic field like it.
The researchers emphasize that the definitive conclusions require further study Swift J1818.0-1607.
