The World Rally Championship, like all car competitions, was affected by the coronavirus pandemic, forcing the suspension of several dates for the 2020 season, however, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) is already seeing a possible return during the summer. of the northern hemisphere, that is, between the months of July and next August.
This was stated by Yves Matton, head of the FIA Rally Division who announced that the dates for Kenya and Finland (July and August respectively) could become the races to resume activity.
“We know that this crisis is having a great impact on all motor sport specialties, but the parties involved and the manufacturers are working closely together knowing that they have to think about the championship and not in their interest,” he said.
FUTURE OF THE WRC
On the other hand, he also analyzed the future of the WRC, noting that “all the teams that are in the WRC currently want to commit to the 2022 season and this is very important.”
In this sense, he added that “more than ever (the teams) are convinced of the future of the discipline and sustainability of the WRC and of the idea of having twenty official cars at the start of each event.”
“This gives me a lot of confidence for the future of the WRC, because manufacturers want to participate in the category at different levels and not only as front-line cars, but also with customer vehicles,” concluded the Fia leader.
