“Perhaps today is not the time to demand that type of information with that high level of delivery requirement”, said this Friday the undersecretary of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Carolina Torrealba, consulted by the freezing of the participation of the Millennium Data Foundations Institute (IMFD) in the Covid-19 Data Table.

The entity, which until yesterday participated in the instance headed by the Minister of Sciences, Andrés Couve, strongly criticized the role of the government and the Ministry of Health in the availability and delivery of information regarding the pandemic.

Fact that the undersecretary of the portfolio addressed this morning. “On the one hand, there is the demand for data about what is happening with this pandemic for the delivery (of information) to citizens. That is one of the objectives and that is reflected in the daily report and epidemiological reports, “he said in conversation with Tele13 Radio.

Along these lines, he defended that “If you look at what has happened from day one until today, the amount of additional information and reporting is quite surprising (…) If you compare that report with others, you have nothing to envy other countries that we look at with admiration. ”

“What happens is that there is another demand in parallel, which has to do with information for the investigation. There is a fair demand for researchers who want research data, which require a different format ”Torrealba added.

The undersecretary maintained that “the epidemiology report has provided much more information than before, definitions have been changed at the request of these (research) groups, additional information has been provided.”

However, he specified that this report, with a different format, requires “a series of changes” and added that “I share that this is a fantastic north to which we want to adhere. There is a research group that wants that information that, for technical and administrative reasons, it is impossible to attend to them at the same time that this crisis is addressed

“It would require a different regulatory framework, a different law – even -. It would be good for the future (…), I share the end, but perhaps today is not the time to demand that type of information with that high level of demand for delivery ”Torrealba concluded.
