American researchers have previously studied discovered on the mountain range moon. After analyzing the images, scientists accept the existence of the Earth’s tectonic system satellite.
Experts at Brown University took into account the presence of “bare” rocks on the moon. Previously, science believed that any activity in this external body is long dead. However, as suggested by the head of the research group, Peter Schultz, the new findings refute the earlier theory. Regolith is detected in most of the lunar surface, which consists of grinding dust from rocks.
It was formed by a constant bombardment of small meteorites. Free areas of such coatings are extremely rare. The fact that the moon appeared in the region of past time not covered with regolith, shows, according to experts, the ongoing tectonic processes. Using the LRO Diviner instrument, the team measured the surface temperature of the satellite. It turned out that it exposed the bedrock block and the moon’s surface warmer than those under a regolith layer.
The specialists alone have identified more than 500 of those points with an open surface. This may mean that tectonic plates continue to increase at this point. Due to the movement of the surface it is destroyed, allowing the regolith to move towards voids and cracks. This causes the appearance of open blocks on the surface.
