This Monday, an adult over Copiapo, Atacama region, used Twitter as a last resort to ask for help from the community, ensuring that they had no food or cleaning supplies at home, in the context of the current health crisis in the country due to Covid-19 .

The affected person’s request generated mixed reactions on the social network, where some accused that it would be a lie to get resources. However, the Government answered the request for help, confirming on the same platform that the older adult indeed he was in a difficult situation.

This is Pablo Espinoza, 67 years old, who in his message on social networks specified that he lived alone, that he was disabled and that he was hungry, attached his CuentaRut number to eventually receive help.

“Hello. I am hungry and I live alone. I am a disabled older adult. I live alone, I am only here in Copiapó. Please help me I don’t receive any kind of bonus. (…) This is my CuentaRut (…) For anyone who wants to check… Thanks I don’t have any cleaning supplies or food ”wrote the man.

Although some of the comments hinted that it was something false, others chose to label authorities and government accounts to go to the rescue. Among them, the Atacama National Youth Institute (Injuv) stood out, detailing their approach.

As told to BioBioChile The regional director, Francisca Zárate, Pablo created his Twitter account to ask for help and after a suggestion from a neighbor. In addition, he stated that they found out about the case after he called the Senior Adult Aid Phone.

“He conveyed to me that he felt very sorry to read some comments that set up trial. He has never in his life begged, He did not want to get to this situation and is very grateful for the help phone, that we have come as a team, “he said.

According to Zárate, Pablo has no close family, but he has a dream of going to visit a grandson who was recently born in the La Araucanía region. Still, he understands that he is disabled due to the health crisis from Covid-19, and difficulty getting around after suffering a cardiovascular accident in 2015.

In turn, he explained that yesterday they came to his aid with a food basket, personal hygiene supplies, bleach, masks, surgical gloves and alcohol gel. He also assured that his home has basic services such as water, gas and electricity.

“We are monitoring him and we are going to provide him with social and emotional support, which is what many older adults require,” said the regional director of Injuv.

Furthermore, Zárate recalled that the help phone is 800 4000 35, and emphasized the negative comments Paul received, calling for caution.
