A 63-year-old man died as a result of the Covid-19 inside his home in the commune of La Florida, a situation that the mayor of the commune, Rodolfo Carter, criticized as negligence of the communal hospital, since the victim had gone to perform the respective exam four days ago and was never notified that he had the disease.
The man cared for his 90-year-old mother in that home, a woman who last week was diagnosed with the new coronavirus and is now hospitalized in critical condition at the Florida Hospital, connected to a mechanical ventilator.
According to CNN, the man came to take the Covid-19 test at the hospital compound, but a guard would not have let him in. After this, he began to present symptoms of the disease, such as fever, cough and sore throat. Finally, last Tuesday, after the intervention of the local municipality, he managed to have the test performed, and although the result was already known yesterday, which was a positive Covid-19, only today would his relatives have been informed, when the man had passed away.
Outside the house of the deceased, the mayor of La Florida, Rodolfo Carter, was upset by the situation and denounced the treatment that was given to the victim. “The hospital did not want to do tests on this person, Roberto, the Municipality still ordered to do the test and it was taken on Tuesday, when he was already with very deep drowning (…) Today in the morning, the neighbors they found dead along with the firefighters, ”he said.
“The test was done more than four days ago, and we just learned that it was officially positive since yesterday and was never reported. We have said it in all shades, this should not happen, we know that dead can occur, but it is not the way that Chileans deserve to die, “he stressed.
Mayor Carter also used social media to denounce this fact.
