3 people died and 104 new cases of Covid-19 in the Coquimbo Region

In a new regional balance, the authorities reported the development of the pandemic in the area, reporting a total of 104 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours.

Of these, 19 correspond to La Serena, 29 to Coquimbo, 7 to Vicuña, 4 to Illapel, 1 to Canela, 5 to Los Vilos, 3 to Salamanca, 15 to Ovalle, 10 to Monte Patria, 6 to Punitaqui, 1 to Río Hurtado and 4 to other regions.

The Minister of Health, Alejandro García, also regretted the death of 3 people, thus reaching a total of 152 deaths so far as a health emergency.

Regarding the total cases, 10,407 accumulated are registered, of which 1,096 are active.

“We regret the death of three people, two with residence registration in the commune of La Serena and one in Ovalle. We send our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones, ”Garcia said.

The authority also detailed that there has been a decrease in active cases in the area, mainly in the commune of La Serena.

“We are still concerned about other communes such as Coquimbo and Ovalle, so the call for this weekend is that they continue to respect sanitary measures, let’s stay at home, share as a family and do not risk new infections of Covid-19,” he added.

Critical bed occupancy reaches 86%

Regarding the balance of the Assistance Network, the director (s) of the Coquimbo Health Service, Edgardo González, pointed out that the region has an endowment of 1,200 beds, which have an occupation of 74%, that is, 253 of them are available.

“In relation to the beds in the Critical Patient Units, 86% of them are occupied, with 17 being available in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which are those that use mechanical ventilators and 4 in the Intermediate Treatment Unit (UTI). Our health officials are giving everything to take care of each one of the patients, but we need the help of the entire community to reduce these figures ”.

Regarding patients hospitalized for Covid, the director (S) reported that 127 patients are hospitalized in the region, of which 31 are seriously ill with respiratory support.

Regarding the breakdown of patients hospitalized for the disease, González reported that as of today there are 32 patients in the Hospital de La Serena, 49 in the Hospital de Coquimbo, 2 in the Hospital de Ovalle, 2 in the Hospital de Los Vilos, 31 in the Contingency Hospital, 1 in the Combarbalá Hospital, 1 in the Andacollo Hospital, 1 in the Vicuña Hospital, 2 in the Salamanca Hospital, 2 in the Illapel Hospital and 4 in the RedSalud Elqui clinic.

Along with this, he also gave details of the health personnel affected by the virus, noting that 225 officials of the Health Service and of the 10 hospitals that have tested positive for the virus, and 96 are in preventive quarantine. For its part, in Primary Health Care there are 27 officials who have tested positive for the virus and 51 are kept in quarantine.
