The 2021 edition of the Viva Dichato festival has been canceled, as reported this Sunday by the mayor of the Bío Bío region, Sergio Giacaman.
The decision comes after eight uninterrupted years of music competition, amid restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The event has been held since 2012 in the coastal commune of Tomé, which was hit hard by the earthquake and tsunami of February 27, 2010. Viva Dichato was an important economic opportunity for the inhabitants and tenants of the area.
“Given the sanitary condition, it will not necessarily be carried out. Not the date we were used to, and that is something that has already been discussed with the mayor, ”said the regional authority, according to La Tercera.
The event, which in its latest version had been broadcast on TVN, had a budget of close to 270 million pesos, money that would be being redirected to generate an alternative instance.

The 2020 edition was presented by the television faces Gino Costa, Carla Zunino, Carmen Gloria Arroyo and Álvaro Escobar. Meanwhile, in previous years it had been broadcast on Channel 13 and Mega.
