A canine organization in Florida, United States, successfully completed an operation to saving 20 golden retriever dogs that were allegedly at risk of being euthanized in China to market their meat.
The dogs arrived at Miami International Airport on Sunday after a long journey and six months of paperwork and preparations and are already “living their new life” with the families who adopted themsaid that Monday to EFE Denise Libby, member of Golden Rescue South Florida.
“These dogs have been through traumatic experiences, so some don’t even know how to handle a dog. It takes a lot of patience, a lot of training and a lot of determination, “said the coordinator of the operation, Kristine Minerva, to CBS.
The operation was put together after Golden Rescue South Florida was contacted by a canine shelter in China whose managers asked them for help to save the dogs.
They organized a fundraising campaign –bringing each dog cost a minimum of $ 2,600According to Minerva- and they looked for 20 families who would meet the conditions to successfully take care of the rescued golden retrievers.
Golden Rescue South Florida has previously organized dog rescues in the United States, Puerto Rico and Turkey.
Minerva, coordinator of the operation, told the media that the flight was delayed 40 hours due to a breakdown as the culmination of a long process in which they have received help from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Taiwan, People for an ethical treatment of animals (PETA) and other organizations.
At the airport the dogs were received by the families with whom they will live from now on.
