2 people died and 85 new cases of Covid-19 in the Coquimbo Region

This Sunday, the regional Health authorities delivered a new health report with the local situation of the Coronavirus.

“We regret the death of two people, one residing in the commune of Coquimbo and the other in Monte Patria. We send our most sincere condolences to their families and loved ones, ”said the Minister of Health, Alejandro García.

Regarding total cases, we reported 85 new cases, reaching a total of 10,492 accumulated cases, of which 1,093 are active. Of the new cases, 22 correspond to La Serena, 28 to Coquimbo, 7 to Andacollo, 5 to Vicuña, 2 to Salamanca, 19 to Ovalle, 1 to Monte Patria and 1 without notification in the Epivigila system.

In relation to the announcement of the authorities at the Central Level, “it must be emphasized that in the communes that remain in total quarantine, that is, La Serena, Coquimbo and Ovalle, they will not be able to request the special permit for National Holidays, in order to protect the health of the entire population ”, indicated García.

141 patients hospitalized for Covid-19

During the last 24 hours, fourteen new patients were hospitalized in the region as a result of the Covid-19, adding a total of 141 hospitalized people, of which 34 are seriously connected to a mechanical ventilator. This was reported by Edgardo González, director (S) of the Coquimbo Health Service.

Regarding the availability of beds, the authority indicated that of the 1200 that the Healthcare Network has, 72% of them are occupied. “Although today we have 252 beds available, only 18 of them belong to the Critical Patient Unit, of which 11 correspond to the Intensive Care Unit, which are those that use mechanical ventilators, and 7 to the Treatment Unit. Intermediate”.

Regarding the number of health workers affected by Covid-19, the director of the institution pointed out that 225 officials from the ten hospitals and the Health Service have tested positive for the virus and 95 are in preventive quarantine. While in Primary Care there are 27 positives to Covid -19 and 51 in preventive quarantine.

Finally, the director (S) of the Health Service highlighted the key role that PHC has played in this pandemic. “On the day of Primary Care we want to send an affectionate greeting to all the officials of our region, who, in the midst of this health emergency, have fulfilled an essential task in the care and monitoring of patients. From each of the towns in our region, even in the most remote, their work has been fundamental in the testing and traceability of people affected by Covid-19, thus contributing to contain the virus.
