2 people died and 33 new cases of Covid-19 in the Coquimbo Region

This Sunday, September 20, the health authorities delivered a new health report with the local situation of the Coronavirus.

“We regret the death of two people, residing in the communes of Coquimbo and Ovalle. We send our most sincere condolences to their families and loved ones,” said the Seremi de Salud, Alejandro García.

In addition, 33 new cases were reported, reaching a total of 11,540 accumulated cases, of which 828 are active. “Of the new cases, 10 correspond to La Serena, 7 to Coquimbo, 1 to Paihuano, 3 to Vicuña, 1 to Canela, 6 to Ovalle, 4 to Monte Patria and 1 without notification in the Epivigila system”, added Seremi García .

Finally, the Health Authority asked the entire community “that on this last day of celebration of National Holidays we continue with the good behavior, we stay at home, we extreme self-care measures and thus we continue to avoid new infections of Covid-19” .

Critical bed occupancy

Regarding the balance of the Assistance Network, Edgardo González, director (S) of the Coquimbo Health Service, pointed out that “93 patients are hospitalized for Covid-19, of which 30 are seriously ill and connected to mechanical ventilation. It is important to point out that each of them is being cared for by a team with a high level of knowledge and trained in invasive treatments and monitoring, ”he said.

Regarding the availability of beds, it was reported that the region has a staff of 1,232, which have an occupancy of 62%. Of this total, 393 are available, of which 24 belong to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which are those that have mechanical ventilators and 18 to the Intermediate Treatment Unit (ICU).

Finally, he pointed out that, regarding the health personnel affected by the virus, there are 91 officials of the Health Service and of the 10 hospitals that have tested positive and 53 are in quarantine. While in Primary Care 28 officials are infected and 46 in quarantine.
