The Biobío Health Minister, Hector Muñoz, confirmed this Tuesday the death of an 11-year-old boy as a result of Pediatric Multisystemic Inflammatory Syndrome, also known by the acronym “PIMS”, and which is associated with contagion by Covid-19.
According to Muñoz, the little died in the Regional Hospital of Concepción, in which he was hospitalized.
This is the first fatal case registered by PIMS in the Biobío Region, and the second confirmed nationally: Emilio Rocha, 16-year-old teenager, died in February at the Hospital de Montt port.
“Obviously, it is a situation that leads us to worry about how we have to avoid contagion not only from older people, but also of the young people who are coming to ICU beds, “said Muñoz.

The seremi indicated that children with Covid-19 “often have the disease asymptomatically, but they can later develop this Multisystemic Inflammatory Syndrome “.
“It is a situation that worries us, that we have to continue observing,” added Muñoz, who confirmed “two more cases “of PIMS in the Region, “but they have not had the seriousness of this (fatal) case” known today.
