On October 4, 1917, Violeta Parra was born, one of the cultural icons of our country and whose popular image remains rooted not only among Chileans, but also worldwide. And that global condition of a multifaceted artist is what proposes to rescue the show “Violeta Universal”, which is one of the main tributes scheduled for this Sunday, as a commemoration of the birth of Violeta and which coincides with the celebration of Chilean Music Day .
The event will bring together Chilean artists and intellectuals and from various countries in an online transmission, around three dimensions of Parra’s work: academic, poetic and musical.
According to the program announced by the organizers, it will feature the presentations of the Portuguese Zé Perdigão, the Argentine Georgina Hassan and the Chileans Illapu, Eduardo Peralta, Finares Dúo, Luciana Ortega and Javier Labbé, in addition to the musical greetings of emblematic figures of popular song such as Vicente Feliú, Silvio Rodríguez and Víctor Heredia, who joined in especially for the occasion.
Another guest who will be present at the broadcast is the Uruguayan musician and writer Alberto Zapicán, Violeta Parra’s partner and artistic collaborator in her later years, whom the singer immortalized in the song “El Albertío”. The 93-year-old artist will join the event, where he will tell details of his joint work with the singer, especially in the period of creation of Las Últimas Compositions (1966).
