1 person deceased and 29 new cases of Covid-19 in the Coquimbo Region

This Sunday, October 4, the health authorities reported a deceased person and 29 new cases, in a new health report with the local situation of the Coronavirus.

“We regret the death of a person due to Covid, living in the commune of Coquimbo. We send our most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones,” said the Seremi de Salud, Alejandro García.

Regarding new cases, the Health Authority registered 29 infections, reaching a total of 12,126 accumulated cases, of which 649 are with active contagion. “Of the new cases, 6 correspond to La Serena, 9 to Coquimbo, 1 to Paihuano, 2 to Vicuña, 3 to Illapel, 1 to Canela, 1 to Ovalle and 6 to Los Vilos”, detailed Seremi García.

80 hospitalized patients

Regarding the balance of the Assistance Network, Edgardo González, director (S) of the Coquimbo Health Service, pointed out that “80 patients are hospitalized for Covid-19, 28 of them in serious condition and connected to mechanical ventilation.”

In relation to the availability of beds, the director reported that the Assistance Network has 67% occupancy, with 354 beds available, of which 15 belong to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 18 to the Intermediate Treatment Unit (UTI), which represents 80% and 74% occupancy, respectively.

Finally, he pointed out that, regarding the health personnel affected by the virus, there are 42 Health Service officials and of the 10 hospitals have tested positive and 40 are in quarantine. While in Primary Care 10 officials are infected and 27 in quarantine.
