Check out Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong covering Billy Bragg’s ‘A New England’

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has continued his closing cover series of No Fun Mondays – listen to his take on the Billy Bragg classic ‘A New England’ below.

During the coronavirus blockade, Armstrong has purchased a wide range of new covers every week.

“Welcome to No Fun Monday on a Friday because no one knows what day it is anyway,” Armstrong wrote in the new cover’s description, which was shared on Friday (July 10).

“I love this song written by Billy Bragg. Also a great version of Kirsty MacColl. “

Some of the earlier versions of the Green Day leader’s No Fun Mondays include ‘Kids In America’ by Kim Wilde, ‘War Stories’ by Starjets, ‘Corpus Christi’ by The Avengers, ‘Manic Monday’ by The Bangles, the song by Tommy James and Shondells. ‘I think we’re alone now’ and Johnny Thunders’ ‘You can’t put your arms around a memory.’

Most recently, he took a version of John Lennon’s protest hymn ‘Gimme Some Truth’.

In addition to learning a host of new covers, Armstrong has also been using his quarantine time to work on the upcoming Green Day footage.

Green Day released the new album ‘Father Of All …’ last year, which NME called their album “jukebox” in a four-star review. The band was recently forced to postpone part of the European leg of their Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer on the back of ‘Father Of All …’ due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Billy Bragg recently spoke to NME about activism, Black Lives Matter, Taylor Swift, and more. “With the world falling apart, some things remain in place,” he said. “There is always something to write about, but particularly at this time. Whether it’s the pandemic and the implications of that, the ramifications of the George Floyd murder, you know.

“I entered politics through Rock Against Racism, and I’ve seen things that I never thought I would see, in terms of how the younger generation has reacted. The idea that they are not politicians has disappeared in the garbage container. ”
