Stars including Jessica Alba, Regina King, Olivia Wilde and Tracee Ellis Ross demand justice for Breonna Taylor with a powerful style statement.
On Monday, 150 days after Taylor was assassinated, more than 70 celebrities posted Instagram photos with a T-shirt of black and female-owned brand Phenomenal that read, “Arrest the cops who murdered Breonna Taylor.”
The back of the tea has a portrait of the late 26-year-old EMT artist Arlyn García, along with the words, “Say her name.”
In March, Taylor was fatally shot in her own home by three Louisville Metro Police Department officers who conducted a no-knock search. While one of the cops involved has since been fired, no one has been arrested.
“It’s been 150 days since Breonna Taylor was murdered in her home by Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove – and her killers are not charged. Too often, black women who die from police violence are forgotten, but that is changing now, ‘reads the title of every celeb.
‘We will remember and remember until there is justice for these women. Let’s keep quiet, continue to demand justification for Breonna and her family, and SAY HER NAME. Married to stand with WNBA players in participating in this campaign, created by @phenomenal in collaboration with the Breonna Taylor Foundation, to whom all winnings of tees will be donated. ”
Other A-listers who shared photos with the charity shirts include Mandy Moore, La La Anthony, Amy Schumer, Viola Davis, Halle Berry, Busy Philipps, Samuel L. Jackson and Sarah Paulson.
Some stars opted for personal messages in their posts. “Today I explained this t-shirt to my 3-year-old daughter. I do not sugarcoat the tragedy of it, ‘Wilde wrote in her title. ‘She should know what kind of world she is here to imitate again. Her innocent horror and confusion must be upon us all. ”
