CBS to honor Carl Reiner with two-color episodes of the Dick Van Dyke show

On Friday, the network will honor Reiner, who died Monday at age 98, by broadcasting an hour-long colored special. The Dick Van Dyke Show, various outlets were reported.

The special, titled The Dick Van Dyke Show – Now in vivid color! A special tribute to Carl ReinerIt will feature two consecutive colored classic episodes from the beloved 1960s series.

According to Weekly entertainment, the first episode of the special will be the premiere of the Emmy Award-winning fifth season “Coast to Coast Big Mouth,” in which Laura Petrie (Mary Tyler Moore) lets out a top secret in a national television contest, revealing that the Comedian Alan Brady (Reiner) uses a toupee.

The second episode to be presented will be “The Eve of October” in Season 3, in which a painting by Laura (Moore) chases her again when, despite having posed fully clothed, the artist (Reiner) takes his liberty to “take off his clothes”.

Both episodes aired on CBS in two specials produced by Reiner in 2016 and 2017, respectively. The original coloring of both episodes was supervised by Reiner, according to Deadline.

Reiner died Monday night at his Beverly Hills, California home of natural causes, his assistant Judy Nagy confirmed to PEOPLE.

Reiner served as creator, writer, and co-star in The Dick VanDyke Show, which aired on CBS from 1961 to 1966. The series won 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, including five for Reiner.

Following the news of Reiner’s death, Dick Van Dyke paid tribute to the late comedian, actor, producer, writer, and singer, calling him his “idol.”

“My idol Carl Reiner wrote about human comedy,” the 94-year-old actor tweeted. “He had a deeper understanding of the human condition, than I think he knew. Kind, gentle, compassionate, empathetic, and wise.” His scripts were never fun, they always had something to say about us. “

Reiner’s son Rob also paid tribute to his father, breaking his silence on Tuesday morning on Twitter.

“My father passed away last night,” wrote Rob, 73, a director (like his father) known to romantic comedy classics like When Harry met Sally and The princess Bride. “As I write this my heart hurts. It was my guiding light.”

Other stars who have honored Reiner in sweet tributes include Alan Alda, George Clooney, Steve Martin, Rosanna Arquette, and Joy Behar.

After their first collaborations with Caesar and Mel Brooks, with whom they became lifelong friends, the couple did the great two-man comedy routine The 2000 Year Old Man, Reiner created the beloved comedy The Dick Van Dyke Show, based in your own life.
