Carolina Panthers release DeAndrew White

The Carolina Panthers released former Alabama wide receiver DeAndrew White on Sunday.

Because White is a solid veteran, he does not have to go through the exemption process and is immediately eligible to sign with any NFL team.

On Sunday, the Panthers’ wide receivers Tommylee Lewis and Marken Michel and tight end Andrew Vollert signed, released White and were off tight end Cam Sutton and linebacker Kyahva Tezino.

In the XFL with the Dallas Renegades earlier this year, Lewis played in 2018 with current Carolina quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and offensive coordinator Joe Brady with the New Orleans Saints.

The brother of the New England Patriots who is running behind Sony Michel, Marken Michel is coming to the Panthers after two seasons with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.

After entering the full season as a restricted free agent, White returned to Carolina on March 25 for a one-year, $ 825,000 contract.

White played four seasons at Alabama. He was reserve for the 2011 BCS National Championship team and began the season as a starter for the BCS National Championship team in 2012 before being sidelined by a knee injury. In four seasons with the Crimson Tide, White averaged 94 passes for 1,294 yards and 12 touchdowns.

As a developed rookie in 2015, White played in four games with the San Francisco 49ers. He did not play in another NFL game in the regular season until he came in 2017 with two Houston in two.

In 2019, White saw his first action since then with 10 games for Carolina. White returned 10 kickoffs for 226 yards and held four passes for 51 yards while making 59 offensive snaps and 170 special-team plays last season.

In 16 NFL games, White has taken seven passes for 93 yards and returned 16 kickoffs for an average of 23.0 yards.
