Just a year after Cardi B joined presidential hopeful Senator Bernie Sanders in a video and political discussion at a Detroit nail salon, the Bronx-born rapper speaks out about her political views and why she is voting for Joe Biden in the upcoming election.
Cardi has been outspoken in the whole coronavirus pandemic, watching and reacting to America’s reaction and even posted incredible videos on her Instagram account which garnered the attention of her 72.3 million followers. By all accounts, she told the publication that she felt listened to by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, but could not say the same for Trump. However, the pandemic is not the only thing that has scared her to vote.
Today’s talk about the Black Lives Matter movement and the assassination of Breonna Taylor, in particular, has also made its way onto Cardi’s platform, as she talks about police brutality against Black women – something she wishes more men in their sector would bring attention to.
‘A woman like Breonna Taylor, she was young. She looked like she was listening to your music. She looked like you were a fan. You have to stand up for them, ‘she explained of her attitude towards male rap artists. “That’s so crazy to me.”
Taylor’s story had even reflected Cardi about the murder of her own cousin. ‘I remember everyone woke up at 3 o’clock and drove all the way to New Jersey, to the hospital. And through all that driving, crying and scared and all, ‘she explained.
As of now, the 27-year-old woman is doing rapper Migos, Offset, and mother to 2-year-old Culture, her part by pleading for the arrest of the Kentucky police officers responsible for Taylor’s death. In the long run, however, she hopes that each of her advocates for social justice and strong leadership will encourage people to vote.
“You can vote for DAs. You can vote for mayors. You can vote for your district, ”she said. “Not everything is the president. Do you know what I’m saying? ”
