California could begin extensive screening with rapid virus tests

Update

Sacramento, California. (AP) – The typical turnaround time for coronavirus tests in California has been reduced to less than two days, state health officials said Thursday, allowing those infected to limit the spread to effective isolation and quarantine.

Test results are now averaged from laboratories. are available within days, down from the five to seven business days typically reported by officials in the last month.

Acting State Health Officer Dr. “To really disrupt that transmission, it needs to be done in a timely manner,” said Erica Pane, the state’s acting health officer. Said Erica Page. “It’s a huge breakthrough.”

According to Pan, two-thirds of the exam results will now be returned within a day and 88% within two days. The one-day average has improved 13% over the past week, and the statewide average has fallen below four days since the beginning of August Gust.

The improvement came when the state would significantly increase preliminary testing this fall. The 1. 1.4 billion deal announced with the Massachusetts company last month aims to more than double the average of about 104,000 tests by March to 250,000.

Significant improvements in capacity and change will allow the state to launch soon, commonly called surveillance testing, Pan said. The goal is to improve testing so that it targets the right people and allows health officials to better predict disease tracks.

He said state officials would soon issue new guidelines for that test.

Infections in California have been steadily declining every week and have been at 3.5% for the past seven days. Hospital admissions and intensive care admissions are also coming down, with 1,040 people in the ICU not seen less during the period close to the onset of the epidemic.

A total of 137 people were killed here on Wednesday, and California is on the verge of 14,000 since the outbreak, the third highest in the country. But less intensive care cases should reduce mortality in the coming weeks.

The state’s new four-tier system is based on reducing infection and case rates to allow counties to reopen businesses and expand activities. Counties are fined if they do not test enough people.

The same is happening in Riverside County and officials there urged more than 2.2 million residents to test. The county can test 4,000 people a day but only half of the available slots are being filled. Due to which the state can adjust its case rate to a higher level which makes it difficult to go to a lower level.

“We’ve made a lot of progress in slowing the spread of the disease, and we want residents to know that more testing will help us stop the spread of the virus,” said Kim Sarvatari, the county’s director of public health. “We need to be re-tested – both for the purpose of isolating diseases and helping to safely reopen more parts of our community.”

For most people, coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially the elderly and those with existing health problems, it can lead to more serious illnesses, including pneumonia and death. A large number of people recover.
