Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing can rocket over 200 mph

There is more than meets the eye here.

Cadillac

Confirmed: The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and CT4-V Blackwing will both have a steering wheel. On Thursday, GM’s luxury division shared the first image of what it calls ‘cars’ performance driving. ‘

That’s great, but after some discussion between the Roadshow team, we think we’ve cracked in some juicier news: The CT5-V Blackwing can go faster than 200 mph.

How in the world do we get that from this shot of the steering wheel? Now, you see, car manufacturers are keeping Easter eggs all the time. You just have to have the right pair of eyes and maybe a good noggin. If you look closely below the “V” badge on the steering wheel, there is a series of seemingly useless figures and figures. “> 322,” read it.

“Larger than 200 mph,” if we read this correctly.

For those who are good at hex code, “>” translates to “greater than”, or worse, the “>” symbol. And the “322?” That just happens to be 200km / h when converting to 322km / h. That, that weird hodge-podge of numbers and digits reads “greater than 200.”

We will remind you the last CTS-V made history as the fastest Cadillac ever with a 200 mph top speed, often recognized on the instrument cluster that clearly shows “200”. It may be that Cadillac is ready to break its own record with the CT5-V Blackwing. Whatever the reason, it’s probably the CT5-V Blackwing and not the CT4-V Blackwing, these performance standards are rumored to be CTS-V and ATS-V.

The latter ran a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 and mustered 189 mph. The CTS-V ran in the meantime with a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 borrowed from the previous Corvette Z06. If one of them is breaking 200km / h, it will be the one with the massive, supercharged V8 under the hood.

Apart from our pun, the teaser photo shows nothing too groundbreaking. The steering wheel carries some nice materials, such as carbon fiber, leather and a red racing strip on the 12-hour mark. There is also a “V” button attached to this wheel and it looks like both cars may have a fully digital instrument cluster. The right side of the photo has a spooky blue wash, which we imagine is to hide the already confirmed manual transmission that sits there.

Rumor has it that Cadillac wanted to show both cars this year, but the coronavirus pandemic shook plans round. In today’s announcement, the brand said that both cars will launch in the summer of 2021, which means we will likely see both the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing bows at the beginning of next year.
