BTS’s ‘Dynamite’ is expected to make its historic No. 1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100

BTS’s new single “Dynamite” lives up to its name in the first week of release. The boyband’s first all-English track blows plates left and right, and it is expected to explode to number 1 on next week’s Billboard Hot 100, according to Graph data.

It was clear from the “Dynamite” pre-release promo that BTS would make a bid for No. 1 on the Hot 100 with their latest single, which received a massive nationwide radio push and multiple remixes in its first week. A No. 1 debut on the Hot 100 would make history on multiple fronts, giving BTS its first No. 1 hit (they hit No. 4 earlier this year with “On”) and made their first Korean act. ‘ t ever surpassed the Hot 100. (Psy previously reached number 2 with his ultra-viral hit 2012 “Gangnam Style.”)

Early metrics across multiple platforms all point to a monstrous debut for “Dynamite.” The accompanying music video of the song broke the YouTube premiere record, drew more than 3 million viewers at a time, and the 24-hour debut record, reaching just over 101.1 million views on its first day. Dynamite has now garnered more than 210 million views in its first five days, making it the fastest music video in history to darken 200 million views.

The new single from BTS also started a stellar streaming start. “Dynamite” topped the global Spotify map with 7.778 million streams from day one, making it the biggest global debut of 2020, surpassing Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan” (7.742 million). That includes 1.824 million streams from the US, good for a no. 3-state debut. (By comparison, BTS’s Top 10 Halsey collaboration “Boy with Luv” earned 1.314 million US streams on its first day, while both versions of “On” together earned 1.408 million streams.) The song has steadily remained in Spotify’s Top 5, both worldwide. and state, earning more than a million U.S. streams per day.

“Dynamite” also posted a remarkable performance on Radio Top 40, earning more than 1,000 spins in its first day, according to HITS Daily Double. That’s the best career for the group, which surpasses “Boy with Luv” – which in turn had the benefit of a major Western pop star feature. May Billboard, “Dynamite” also gave BTS its best debut on the Pop Songs Radio Airplay chart, launching at number 30 with 2,301 games in the first three days and jumping again over “Boy with Luv” (number 35 with 1,230 games).

These pink early metrics for “Dynamite” do not even account for traditional sales, which have always been BTS’s bread and butter. Limited edition “Dynamite” vinyl and cassettes have been sold out several times online, and the song was soon released to number 1 on iTunes in the US and around the world after its release. As of yesterday, BTS claimed the top four spots on the US iTunes map with four different versions of “Dynamite”: the original, the instrumental, and the newly released acoustic and EDM remixes.

Add up all these successes in the radio, streaming and sales departments, and BTS seems ready to make history again with “Dynamite.” When the Billboard Hot 100 launches next week, the superstar septet could very well rule the kingdom.
