BTS ‘Japanese-language album Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey reappears in the Billboard 200 chart at no. 14, a new height, and the South Korean pop group scores their seventh top-40 charting album, and sixth top-20 title. The attempt, which was previously only available as a digital download, jumps back on the map after the CD edition was released on August 7th.
Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey was released via Virgin / UMe and earned 28,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending August 13 (up 1,439%) according to Nielsen Music / MRC Data.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the US on a multimetric consumer basis, as measured in equivalent album units. Units include album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, as 10 individual tracks sold from an album, as 3,750 ad support as 1,250 paid / subscription on demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new August 22-dated card (where Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey comes in again at no. 14) will be fully placed on Billboard‘s website on 18 aug.
Fan Map of the Soul: 7 – The JourneyThe total of 28,000 units for the week, 26,000 were in album sales, while the rest included TEA and SEA units. The album put one previous week on the map, dated July 25, entering at no. 115 with 8,000 equivalent album units earned, following its digital and streaming release on July 14th.
All told, Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey is the seventh top album with 40 cards, and sixth top 20 title, for BTS. The act previously visited the top 40 with Wings (No. 26, 2016), Love Yourself: Her (No. 7, 2017), Love Yourself: Tear (No. 1, 2018), Love Yourself: Answer (No. 1, 2018), Map of the Soul: Persona (No. 1, 2019) and Map of the soul: 7 (No. 1, 2020). All of the group’s previous top 40 efforts were Korean-language titles (with moments of English sprinkled throughout).
BTS has released four Japanese albums, and Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey is the second to reach the Billboard 200. It follows the group’s previous Japanese commitment, Face yourself, which debuted and peaked at no. 43 in 2018.
Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey also reaches no. 1 for the first time on the World Albums chart, and BTS’s 10th leader on the tally.
