Bryan Cranston on The One And Only Ivan, Malcom In The Middle

Looking to star Godzilla and witnessed a collision in the middle of the sky Breaking badthe fateful season two finale, Bryan Cranston is no stranger to working against CGI. But no kaiju could prepare Cranston on The One And Only Ivan, who demanded an intimate emotional performance in tandem with a (literally) circus of computer-generated animals, including elephants, a few dogs, and one talented silverback gorilla. Adapted from the Newbery Medal-winning children’s novel for Disney +, The One And Only Ivan has Cranston as Mack, the owner of the Big Top Mall, and the factor leader for the titular monkey Ivan and his critics who do not realize that a whole world awaits them outside of prison. During the virtual junket for the film, we had the opportunity to ask the actor about all the dolls, green screens, and motion-capture artists with whom he worked to bring the film to life. And, because this year marks the 20th anniversary of the seminal sitcom Malcolm In The Middlestarring Cranston as helpless father Hal – the actor also thought about the series’ legacy, imagining how the Wilkersons might be quarantined.

The One And Only Ivan will be available to stream, exclusively on Disney +, beginning Friday, August 21st.
