The first two days of refurbished practice at the Cleveland Browns’ training camp did not go the way linebacker Mack Wilson would have liked, hampered by a knee injury on Tuesday.
The former Alabama standout recovered from the injury during seven-on-seven springs while breaking a pass meant for wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones. After being examined by medical personnel, Wilson was selected for the Browns’ practice facility.
Wilson suffered a “significantly hyperextended left knee,” reports Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. The injury could require surgery at the end of the season, but cleveland.com reported that the Browns will seek a different medical opinion before deciding on surgery.
Although Wilson is Cleveland’s leading returning tackle, he worked Tuesday’s defense with the second team after being replaced by former Oxford High School standout Tae Davis on the first team.
Wilson’s demotion came after he started running Nick Chubb landed in the conquest protocol due to a Wilson attack on Monday.

Before Tuesday’s practice, Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski said he preferred to “keep those conversations internal” when asked what he said to Wilson about approaching Chubb, but he agreed that it was “honest” to say he was not happy with the game.
“Of course, that’s disappointing,” Stefanski said. “We have to be smart.”
Before playing for Alabama, Wilson was a two-time All-State selection at Carver High School in Montgomery.
Wilson is preparing for his second season after playing a bigger role than expected for Cleveland as a rookie. A fifth-round pick, Wilson entered the starting lineup when Christian Kirksey was injured in the second game of 2019. Wilson continued on to the Browns’ second finish to center-back Joe Schobert with 944 defensive snaps and 82 tackles in the past. season.
