Britney Spears is “strongly opposed” to her father, James “Jamie” Spears, relinquishing his role as its conservator and supervisor of her financial affairs and estate through a new court appearance, as New York Times reports. For more than a decade, the pop star has been subjected to a conservatory, in which a judge appoints a caregiver to manage the financial and personal affairs of someone who is incompetent or unable to make those decisions on their own. .
Spears was first placed under a conservatory in 2008 after a series of public burglaries. However, in submitting attorney Samuel D. Ingham, Spears feels that the structure of the conservatory “needs to change substantially to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated desires.”
Her father served as her conservator until last fall when he returned from the post to health issues. Since then, licensed curator Jodi Montgomery has taken over the role. According to the court submission, Spears is ‘strongly opposed’ to her father returning as her conservator and caretaker of her estate and implicitly that she might end the conservatory for good.
“Without in any way waiving its right to seek termination of this Conservatory in the future,” Ingham wrote in the Conservancy, via New York Times, “Britney would like Ms. Montgomery’s appointment as her personal conservator to be made permanent.” Spears “also prefers to have a qualified fiduciary appointed” to manage her financial affairs and estate instead of her father. A status quo in the case is scheduled for Wednesday in Los Angeles.
Ingham declined to comment.
A growing group of fans, who have expressed concerns about Spears and the conditions and motives of her conservatory, have pleaded for the pop star under the hashtag #FreeBritney. Her father treated the movement in an interview with Page Six.
“All these conspiracy theorists know nothing. The world has no clue, ”he said. ‘It’s up to the California court to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s none of that. ” I love my daughter, ” he added.
