The uncle of a British teenager who was raped while on holiday with his friend in Italy requested to call the police so as not to spoil the party.
The two girls, aged 15, were at a party in the villa of Marconia de Pistici, a city of about 12,000 people in the southern Italian province of Matera.
Shortly after arriving at the party, the two teenagers – who arrived with the sister of one of them – were approached by two suspects, investigators said.
Matera police said a suspect pushed a young woman into a darkened area and her teenager arrived there shortly afterwards with another teenager.
According to TGcom24, the two girls were sexually assaulted for about 15 minutes in an area near the villa.
After the suspects left the scene, the teenagers told the sister of one of them what had happened.
Once they returned home, both victims were called 118 – Italian Emergency Service.
An ambulance arrived to assess his condition and took him to the hospital.
The victims also warned police they were beaten and punched before being raped by eight men during the night.
The girls were reportedly admitted to Madonna della Grazi Hospital in Matera.
According to The Guardian, he was in a state of shock and the marks on his body showed signs of violence.
Police described the attack, which took place on the night of September to September, as “brutal and extreme”.
The victims reportedly tried to defend themselves, but no one at the party noticed the rape because the music was loud.
Four men from the city have been arrested on suspicion of rape and bodily harm.
Michael Masillo, 23, Alberto Loptrello, 22, Ales and Ndro Zukaro, 21, and Giuseppe Gargo, 19, who were named by the Italian media, are being held in Matera.
Details of the investigation revealed that a girl’s uncle had gone to the party after the attack and did not have to call the police.
According to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, he was told by a policeman that “don’t call the police, or you ruin the party”.
The girls’ lawyer, Giuseppe Rago, described the violence as “unprecedented”.
“They are young women with strong character, they are very happy by their families and believe in the work of justice.
“They hope to recover soon and forget what happened … We would never have thought that such an evil could happen here,” he told AdNacronos.
One girl described in her statement how she had ordered a drink and was then offered another by the man she met at the party.
She said: “I didn’t take any drugs on purpose, but I think someone poured something into my other drink because I panicked after drinking it. ”
The girl added to the attack: “I told them to stop. I was yelling in English to let me go.
“They took off his trousers and I tried to defend myself by biting one of his penises. I saw one of them trying to film on his phone.”
CCTV footage released by Italian police and published by local media showed the man walking towards the ground and leaving the scene about 15 minutes after the alleged rape.
The girls identified at least two of the attackers by the girls, while the cousin of one of them showed them Masiello and Lopatreillo’s Instagram profile.
The investigation is ongoing and the suspects are in jail.
