According to an updated report published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Children’s Hospitals Association, more than 476,000 cases have been reported in children since the Covid-19 epidemic began on August 27.

The report looks at data from 49 states, New York City, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam.

Children represented .5..5% of all cases, and there is an overall rate of 631 cases per 100,000 children in the population. Both numbers have risen since the previous report on August 20, when children reported an overall rate of 9.3% in all cases and 583 cases per 100,000 children in the population.

August. Since 13 there have been 70,330 new child cases reported – a 17% increase in child cases in two weeks.

Of the nine states that reported testing, children accounted for between 4% and 13.3% of all tests. Between 2.8% and 17.4% of the children tested were positive for Covid-19.

Of the 22 states and New York City that reported hospital admissions, children accounted for 0.6% to 4.1% of hospital admissions. Between 0.3% and 8.5% of all pediatric hospital admissions.

States 43 states and New York City report mortality rates, with 0% to 0.3% of all Covid-19 deaths reported to children and 19 states to zero child mortality. Of the states that have reported, 0% to 0.7% have died in all child cases.

“At this time, it appears that serious illness caused by Kovid-19 is rare in children,” the report said. “Nevertheless, states should continue to provide detailed reports on Covid-19 cases, testing, hospitalization and mortality so that the effects of Covid-19 on children’s health can be documented and monitored.”
