As promised, while Disney announced the demise of the complimentary magic bands for resort hotel guests, Disney will soon introduce a new option for theme park entrances and more: Disney MagicMobile service.
Launched in phases later this year, the Disney MagicMobile service is a convenient and non-contact way to access MagicBand features like theme park access through the power of your iPhone, Apple Plus and other smart devices. Guests will be able to create a Disney MagicMobile Pass through the My Disney Experience app and add it to the digital wallet of their smart device. Most features will only be available by holding your smart device close to a point access point, just like you would with a magic band. The Disney MagicMobile service and its features will be launched on the first devices.
Guests can choose to use Disney’s MagicMobile service or MagicBand. Guests can also use alternatives between both and both for added flexibility.
Disney has made it clear that they are not discontinuing MagicBands, as they said they will soon release more MagicBands featuring favorite Disney characters and stories in new colors and designs.
The existing digital room key feature will be available exclusively in the My Disney Experience app, which helps guests speed up their arrival by using the check online check-in service, accessing their Disney resort hotel room directly and using their phone to unlock their doors.
Guests at the Disney Resort Hotel can also visit the front desk and pick up a World Card key at their convenience. This has changed in design recently as more guests are now expected to use them.
