Bradley Beal has yet to make a final decision on whether to play, but the Washington Wizards guard is expected to join the team on its flight to Orlando, Florida, according to head coach Scott Brooks.
Last week, Beal said he “was not swayed one way or the other” on whether he would play in Orlando, where the NBA will resume the season at the end of the month at Walt Disney World Resort.
However, Brooks said Beal is scheduled to travel with the team for his scheduled flight Tuesday pending the result of his coronavirus test.
“There is no final decision,” Brooks said when asked if Beal had decided whether to play or not. “We are all still day by day.
“He looks great. His physical condition has been quite good and he continues to improve every day, along with our other boys. We are all getting tested every day and right now, he is ready, and we are all going there. ready to compete and improve and play to reach a playoff position. It looks great. “
Point guard John Wall, who is out of season with an Achilles injury, and forward Davis Bertans will not accompany the team to Orlando. Bertans decided to choose not to resume the season.
Brooks said there is no timetable for Beal’s decision. Washington (24-40) follows Orlando (30-35) by 5½ games for eighth place in the Eastern Conference, and is six games behind Brooklyn (30-34) for seventh place.
The Wizards will proceed cautiously with Beal.
“The guys who are going to go there, we are going to have a system in place,” Brooks said. “The boys will continue to work on our conditioning and will continue to slowly integrate physical contact and then they will go into a 3-on-3 and 5-on-5, and then we will make decisions about all of our boys. We are not going to put a player at risk. our team if you are not ready to play in an NBA game.
“We all do tests every day,” Brooks added of Beal who traveled with the team Tuesday. “Today I just finished testing and we get the results back in 24 hours. From now on, Brad and the group are ready to go down, and if it changes they will know in the coming days.”
