Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a spiritual successor to the Jet Set radio

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, a spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio has been officially revealed. Cyberfunk will even feature music composed by Jet Set Radio master Hideki Naganuma, further bringing the two series together. Cyberfunk was revealed on Twitter today by Team Reptile, the developer behind Lethal League Blaze and Megabyte Punch. “Start your own cipher and dance, paint, fool, confront the police, and expose your claim to the extrusions and cavities of a sprawling metropolis in an alternative future for Hideki Naganuma’s musical brainwaves,” reads on Steam of the game. According to the description, each stage will be a “neighborhood representing one hour of the day” and the game will be “player focused”.

Music for the game will be provided by Hideki Naganuma, the esteemed behind-the-scenes composer of Jet Set Radio, also known for his work on Sonic Rush, Ollie King, and many more. Its signature style can be heard in the Bomb Rush Cyberfunk sting, giving us our first glimpse into the elegant world of the game. We haven’t had a new Jet Set Radio game in 18 years, and fans have been clamoring for a revival ever since.

In the absence of SEGA’s interest in reviving the series, independent developers have kept the Jet Set spirit alive, with previous Team Reptile games such as Lethal League, and other independent titles like Rocket Juice Game’s Neon Tail evoking the Jet style. Set Radio, although through different genres and settings.

There is no solid release date or platforms listed at this time, but Team Reptile plans to release Bomb Rush Cyberfunk on the Jet Set Radio “Future”. How apt.
