Blackpink, Selena Gomez collaborate on new single ‘Ice Cream’

Blackpink and Selena Gomez have released the playful video for their highly anticipated new single “Ice Cream.” Blackpink will release their debut album on October 2nd.

In the colorful clip, Gomez and the ladies of Blackpink hang out in a pastel-colored world, ride an ice cream truck, ride a bike and hang out on a basketball court, while often enjoying the creamy confectionery they compare to the feelings that they catch for those they want. Gomez walks away with “Come a little closer, because you’re thirsty.” At the choir they sing, “Diamonds on my wrist, so he calls me ice / You can double dive, because I know you like me / Iron chillin ‘.”

“Ice Cream” is the second single Blackpink: the album, follow the trap-pop track “How You Like That.” Earlier this year, the quartet joined Lady Gaga for the Grammy winners Chromatica track “Sour candy.” In anticipation of this new single, Gomez invested in the Serendipity ice cream brand – which owns the famed NYC restaurant Serendipity3. Along with the release of the song, a flavor called Cookies & Cream Remix (with pink vanilla ice cream) will go on sale Friday.

Blackpink made their official debut in 2016, though Korean label YG Entertainment began auditioning and recruiting potential members in 2011. They began releasing singles after their official lineup was locked out, including their debut track “Boombayah” in 2016. They have released a few EPs, the latest is 2019s Kill this love. In 2018, they released a Japanese studio album with the title Blackpink in your area, which was technically a compilation of their previously released singles and Japanese EP.

Gomez released her third solo album Rare in January, her first album since 2015 Generation. Most recently, she hosted the HBO Max cooking show Selena + Chef, which they filmed while isolating themselves from the coronavirus pandemic. In the show, Gomez is remotely taught to cook by eight chefs from around the world.
